The 2009 Kossuth House Concert Series continues with a rare show by modern fiddling legend - Darol Anger with guitarist Scott Law! Darol is the inspiration for past house concert performer Sara Watkins, fiddler of Nickel Creek and he has been noted as the inventor of Nickel Creek's music genre as well as a handful of other styles.
"Fiddler, composer, producer and educator, Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres, some of which he helped to invent. Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous pathbreaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the David Grisman Quintet, Montreux, his Duo with Mike Marshall, and others. He has performed and taught all over the world with musicians such as Dr. Billy Taylor, Bill Evans, Edgar Meyer, Bill Frisell, Marin Alsop and the Cabrillo Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, Mark O’Connor, Bela Fleck, and Stephane Grappelli. Today Darol can be heard on NPR's "Car Talk" theme every week, along with Earl Scruggs, David Grisman and Tony Rice. He has recorded and produced scores of important recordings since 1977, is a MacDowell and UCross Fellow, and has received numerous composers’ residencies and grants. He has been a featured soloist on dozens of recordings and motion picture soundtracks."
"Scott Law embodies the ideal of the American Guitar Master. A brilliant and versatile guitarist, Law has connected onstage with many contemporary masters of Americana music, among them Phil Lesh and friends, Melvin Seals, String Cheese Incident, David Carradine, Leftover Salmon, David Grisman, Darol Anger, Steve Kimock, The Motet, Peter Rowan, Yonder Mountain, and on and on. Scott is a prolific songwriter, composer and singer. Scott has perfected a style which bears his unique stamp yet freely ranges over the entire history of rock and jazz guitar. His alternately chiming and grinding melodic concept bears favorable comparison with everyone from the early Telecaster masters to Stevie Ray Vaughn to Jerry Garcia. His early years as a drummer inform his style with a rare rhythmic concision, making the sound of any band he is in much larger. His expressive tenor voice and infectiously singable melodies and lyrics gift audiences with his generous spirit and warm presence, and raise the level of any musical situation."

Answers to Common Questions:
What is a house concert?
While everyone has a blast, this is not a 'party' per say. It is rather an actual concert performance in the most intimate of venues: a living room. Our shows are always acoustic/unplugged, with no microphones, p.a. speakers or amplifiers. This quiet listening environment ensures that everyone gets to hear the slightest little nuance of every song... making it the ultimate way to experience music, up close & personal. There is no sound system creating a separation between performer & the audience. We have everyone bring food to enjoy before/during the show. Be sure to bring extra money for cd’s as the artists usually sell them after their performances & can even autograph them.
